Anyone who has spent time in a campus counseling center knows the moment. A student comes in to talk about anxiety, and twenty minutes later the real weight surfaces: rent is late, the meal plan ran out in October, the car that gets them to their night shift needs a repair they can’t afford. The anxiety is real. So is everything underneath it.
Students carry their whole lives into college. Hunger, housing, child care, transportation and mental health all arrive in the same person, on the same day, and they make each other heavier. Supporting students well means treating those needs as connected, because students experience them that way.
That belief is why BetterMynd is partnering with The Hope Center for Student Basic Needs at Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine. Starting this fall, campuses that partner with BetterMynd can add The Hope Center’s research-backed basic needs program, Hope Impact Partnerships (HIP), to their BetterMynd contract, bringing mental health care and basic needs support into the same conversation on campus.
